Homes for Wales
The Homes for Wales campaign brings together those who believe everyone has a right to a decent affordable home to call their own.
The campaign has been set up to ensure that housing is a key political issue in the National Assembly for Wales elections. No one can make the case for a housing crisis alone which is why we’re asking you to add your voice to the Homes for Wales campaign.
Why has the campaign been set up?
There is a housing crisis in Wales.
Since 2008, house prices have risen by 16% (more than six times the average person’s income)
To meet current demand in Wales, 12,000 new homes are needed each year Last year, 5,070 households were accepted as homeless
8,596 families have been on the housing waiting list since before the last election
How does this affect you?
Are you unable to save for a deposit for your dream house?
Are you unable to start a family because you can’t afford to move to a bigger home?
Are you a prisoner in your own home because it’s no longer suitable for your changing needs?
Are you worried about where your children are going to live when they fly the nest?
The housing crisis isn’t just about houses – it’s about people.
What are we asking for?
Homes for Wales speaks with one voice and stands behind one simple message – End the housing crisis, build a stronger Wales. We ask that the next Welsh Government publishes an ambitious plan for housing as part of the new Programme for Government that sets out how they will end the housing crisis in Wales.
Homes for Wales is a coalition led by seven organisations: Community Housing Cymru Group, Chartered Institute of Housing Cymru, Shelter Cymru, Welsh Tenants, Home Builders Federation, Residential Landlords Association, and the Royal Town Planning Institute.
