Cwmgelli Lodge: Specialist nursing and care home

Cwmgelli Lodge Cwmgelli Lodge in Blackwood is a specialist care home with nursing specially designed to meet the needs of people with a dementia or cognitive impairment.

Offering an alternative to existing models of care in older people’s services, Cwmgelli Lodge provides respite and longer term placements for 24 people in spacious dementia-friendly specialist accommodation featuring:

  • Spacious bedrooms with ensuite and kitchenette
  • Café area leading to separate pavilion day centre
  • Relaxation spa 
  • Activities room
  • Garden and roof terrace
  • Large communal lounges kitchens and dining rooms in an open-plan setting
  • Quiet rooms and multi-faith room
  • Clinical treatment room



Cwmgelli Lodge is a new facility, intending to lead the way in Wales in terms of specialist services and accommodation to meet the needs of people over 50 with a dementia or cognitive impairment.

Younger people with a dementia or cognitive impairment are currently placed in a range of services including older people’s services or hospital placements which are not always appropriate.

Cwmgelli Lodge is operated by Gwalia Care and Support and Tai Gwalia, part of Pobl Group.

Pobl Group operates a wide range of housing, care and support services across south and mid Wales and south west England including domiciliary care, home care, extra care, residential care and dementia-specific nursing care.
